GENERAL CLASSROOM RULES
TARDINESS
A student is considered tardy if he/she is
not in his/her seat with their planner out on Monday or vocabulary sheet out
Tuesday through Friday. A notice of the second tardy will be sent home for your
signature. Every two tardies a trimester results in the lowering of citizenship
grade and a one half hour detention is given after the third tardy. The school
will also be assigning a school detention after the fourth tardy.
BEHAVIOR
My goal is to provide the students with a
positive, organized and structured learning environment. As your son/daughter
will find out, I will provide plenty of time for them to express themselves.
The challenge is to teach them when the appropriate time is to do this
"expressing". In general, students will be given positive
reinforcement for expected behavior and a quiet and sometimes non-verbal
warning when the expected behavior is not being shown. At times, I will talk to
the students one-on-one to discuss their behavior. A one half hour after school
detention will be assigned if the student continues the unacceptable behavior
after one warning.
Students may not leave his/her seat unless
permission is given.
Students must raise their hands to ask or
answer questions.
Students must do work during a lab at all
times or they will be put on a restriction list and be given an alternative
assignment during the next lab. If this assignment is completed on time they
will resume doing labs with the class. This is designed mainly for protection
of the equipment and safety of the students.
Students must not produce excessive noise
during group activities and no talking during independent work.
Students should respect themselves, their
classmates, the teacher and the facility.
DETENTIONS
A detention slip will be sent home for your
signature and is required to be returned before the detention can be served. If
a student does not serve the detention on the assigned date, the detention will
be doubled. Further, if the double detention is not served, a referral will be
made requesting Saturday School. I know detentions can be a burden on you so
please encourage your child to exhibit appropriate behavior. I am only making
the students accountable for their action. I prefer before school detentions,
but after school detention can be arranged.
HALL PASSES
Students will receive two hall passes to be
used in emergency during each trimester. New passes will not be issued for lost
passes. Five extra credit points will be given for each unused pass at the
end of each trimester.
GRADES
Grades are figured on a percentage scale.
Grades are posted in the room and updated every two weeks. No surprises for the
students!! Test and assignment points are totaled and graded according to the
following percentages:
90% and above
A
80%
to 89% B
70%
to 79% C
60%
to 69% D
59%
and below F
** The lowest test score will be dropped
each trimester.
HOMEWORK AND MAKE-UP WORK
Homework will be assigned Monday through
Thursday unless otherwise told. No homework will be assigned after a test,
weekends and holidays. Students will be required to write down each weeks
homework in their planners on Monday. If you notice your child is getting a low
grade, you should check the planner and the completed homework nightly. Do not
rely on the "I’m all done". No homework is accepted after the due
date!
Unit packets, which are due on the day of a
test, will be marked down 25% for the first day late and 50% for any day after
this up to the end of the trimester grading period.
The students are responsible to make up all
work missed. An easy to follow make-up system is available in the classroom.
